Leonardo MSP Diamond DA62 with Intelligence, Maritime Surveillance Capabilities

Italian protection technologies company Leonardo has teamed up with Austria-based Diamond Aircraft Industries to equip the Diamond DA62 plane with custom-made maritime surveillance missions products. Dubbed DA62-MSA (Maritime Surveillance Plane), the light plane will be pitched to customers who have a prerequisite for economical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms suitable for shorter and medium array maritime and around-land surveillance missions.

Leonardo said the collaboration was a reaction to the need to have for cost-helpful, quick/medium-variety land and maritime surveillance platforms in areas these kinds of as South The us, Africa and the Asia Pacific.

The DA62-MSA’s baseline sensor in shape will involve a Leonardo Gabbiano Extremely-Light TS Radar, which arrives with a suite of modes like optimized maritime patrol capabilities (such as substantial sea state detection), significant resolution floor mapping by using artificial aperture radar (SAR) modes, floor relocating target indication (GMTI) and weather avoidance modes. Also, a third-get together electro-optic (EO/IR) program will occur built-in with Leonardo’s ATOS (Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance) mission method.

The plane will also appear with a Higher Definition electro-optic (EO/ IR) turret which, like the radar, will be completely integrated into the operator’s touch-display ATOS show to stick to and handle the surveillance missions.

Sensor alternatives will also be offered for users who call for added ability, which includes Leonardo’s SAGE electronic support actions (ESM) process and Spider communications intelligence (COMINT) program.

“This new airborne resolution, primarily based on our DA62 distinctive mission plane, will be offered to the industry by the close of the yr, ready to supply and present stability and surveillance tasks,” Liqun Zhang, CEO of Diamond Aircraft mentioned.
